HILLSBORO, Texas (October 19, 2015) — On Wednesday, November 4, Hillsboro residents will host a fundraiser to help their city’s public safety department purchase a second K-9 dog and pay for its training. The animal will assist law enforcement with detecting narcotics, firearms, and other items, along with doing rescue, missing person, and general searches.

This fundraiser will be hosted by Carrol Estes at his Roadside America Museum and Party Room, in a 1950s nostalgic atmosphere. Estes said his motivation to organize this event stems from his appreciation of law enforcement officers.

“Our public safety department protects and serves our residents and our businesses,” said Estes. “Now they have a need, and we wanted to say thank you to them by helping to meet that need.”

Estes is partnering with the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce to bring the event to life.

“Our city took part in the recent #BackTheBlue movement to publicly thank officers of all departments for their service,” said Vicki Hidde, Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce director. “So when Carrol came to me and wanted to help meet the expansion needs of the K-9 unit, our chamber thought it was an opportunity to invest in the future safety and prosperity of our community.”

Three-year-old German Shepherd Roxie from Czechoslovakia joined the Hillsboro Police Department earlier this year. The public safety department hopes to raise $5,000, which will be used to purchase a buddy K-9 to assist Roxie, and to cover training costs for the second dog. The November 4 fundraiser runs from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., where a BBQ dinner will be served, a silent auction held and door prizes awarded every 30 minutes. Event sponsorships, cash and door prize item donations are welcome, and can be received at the chamber, (115 N. Covington, Hillsboro, TX 76645) or Roadside America Museum, (212 E Elm St, Hillsboro, TX 76645).
