Liz Anderson (center) in “mommy mode”

This is the sixth in a series of seven blog posts reproduced from a Baylor University PR class assignment by student Andrea Aguirre. When I [Aguirre] asked her [Anderson] what a typical day was like for her, she presented an insight into her life as the founder of her own PR firm, a wife, and mother of two. Cleverly put, she describes mornings before her kids are off to school as “mommy mode.” After her kids are at school, Mrs. Anderson shifts into “work mode” which she will be in from about nine in the morning to five in the afternoon. After five, she toggles her time from work mode to mommy mode getting in a few more hours of work as the kids do homework and have playtime. Once evening comes, it’s strictly “mommy mode” for the rest of the night. When I first thought of this question, I was full of speculation as to how in the world an owner of a company with a family can maintain a balanced life. But hearing how gracefully Mrs. Anderson balances and juggles all her responsibilities gave me a sense of security that it is possible to be both a business powerhouse and maintain an active family life.
