MCGREGOR, Texas (November 9, 2015) — Caritas of Waco has been named a Charity Champion by The First National Bank Your Bank for Life (TFNB) because of their continuous support of those in need in the community. The award will be presented to Caritas during the third quarter of the Oklahoma University vs Baylor football game on Saturday, November 14.

Caritas provides urgent support to people in need in our community. This includes assistance in the form of food, clothing, prescriptions, rent and utilities, as well as help escaping poverty through case management and SNAP outreach. They are currently in need of two forklifts, partitioning, fans and space heaters for a new client clothes closet, a 6,000-8,000 square-foot thrift store location, canned food as well as additional funding.

“All of us who are associated with Caritas of Waco are thrilled to have our organization named a Charity Champion,” said Buddy Edwards, executive director of Caritas of Waco. “As an agency that ministers to low-income families, we feel honored that we can make a difference in the lives of people every day, and we are grateful to be included among the other many worthy agencies who have received this designation. We would like to thank TFNB for its sponsorship of Charity Champions and for making this investment for the betterment of non-profit organizations.”

Ann Owen, development director at Caritas, nominated Caritas to become a Charity Champion. When asked why Caritas should be chosen, she said:

“We provide urgent services to an average of 100 families every day – services that include food, clothing, utility payments, rent and mortgage assistance, and vouchers for transportation. We serve individuals from all walks of life and backgrounds.Through the process of providing these services, we gain an understanding of the obstacles our clients face that keep them in the cycle of poverty. We assist individuals in taking steps toward expanding their resources and becoming self-sufficient. Our ultimate goal is to alleviate hunger in McLennan County.”

“Their vision of providing long-term solutions for the impoverished people in our community is exactly why Caritas of Waco deserves to be recognized as a Charity Champion,” said David Littlewood, president of TFNB.
