L-3 Receives Renovated TSTC Hangar

(WACO) — TSTC turned over a historic hangar to lessee L-3  on May 7 following the completion of a 10-month renovation.

Rob Wolaver, TSTC Waco interim president, called it a win-win collaboration between TSTC, L-3 Communications, Pearson Construction and the Waco Economic Development Corporation. “Everyone shared a common interest,” Wolaver said, “and we couldn’t have done it without our partners.” Beginning in July 2014, renovations of the 98,000-square-foot facility, collectively totaling $4.8 million, included fresh paint, new flooring, new windows, a new roof and making the building fire suppressant. Mike Wright, L-3 president, said a hangar of this size has significant value to L-3 Communications. “If we weren’t able to get this renovation done, we were going to have to leave this hangar because of the hazardous conditions,” Wright said. “Now I have a six-bay hangar, and we can bring work and jobs in here. We intend to start filling it up within the week.” This renovated hangar represents 150-200 jobs for the city of Waco, Wright added. Rickey Henry, Pearson Construction vice president and project manager, said the L-3 employees now will have the opportunity to use a clean, bright and environmentally safe building. — # — Texas State Technical College (www.tstc.edu) is the technical college of Texas serving statewide with campuses in Abilene, Breckenridge, Brownwood, Fort Bend.
