Christmas From A Distance: Hillsboro Reinvents Holiday Activities

Unfortunately, Hillsboro canceled the Christmas From A Distance events that would have likely interested the media, so this press release was never released. We still think the release was written well and worthy of a blog post! Hope you agree.

HILLSBORO, TX (December XX, 2020) — According to city, chamber, and school officials, nothing, not even COVID, is going to stop Hillsboro from celebrating the holiday season. This year’s holiday schedule consists of reimagined activities that respect social distancing.

One such event is the annual Christmas Parade, which started in 2005 in Downtown Hillsboro and drew large crowds. This year’s parade will be held in the massive parking lot at the Outlets at Hillsboro where parade entrants and spectators will switch roles. Floats, performers, marching ensembles, clowns will remain stationary in the parking lot while spectators drive through viewing the mix of parade entrants, taking in treats, and possibly getting a glance of Santa Claus. The “Reverse Parade” is Saturday, December 5th at 6:30 p.m. The Hillsboro Optimist Club will collect unopened toys for its toy drive.

The afternoon before the “Reverse Parade,” members of the Hillsboro High School Student Council will be strolling in Downtown Hillsboro donned in Whoville costumes. Organizers say there will be plenty of opportunities to celebrate during other upcoming events as part of the “Christmas From A Distance” schedule.

“With the COVID pandemic still active, we have to be more creative about how we celebrate Christmas this year,” said Chamber Executive Director Wendy Ellis. “But we are determined to have a full slate of socially-distanced activities to ring in the season and find ways to encourage shopping local and supporting our business community,”
