McGregor High School Principal Goes to Harvard

MCGREGOR, TX — McGregor Independent School District today announced that McGregor High School principal Robert White has been selected to participate in Raise Your Hand Texas’ annual leadership program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE) in July.

White was chosen following a rigorous selection process, including a thorough application, essays, reference letters and multiple interviews. He will take part in the weeklong program, “Leadership: An Evolving Vision,” taught by Harvard educators.  While in Cambridge, he will have the opportunity to connect with peers from Texas and around the world, learn new practices, and share leadership experiences.

This year, Raise Your Hand Texas received nearly 200 applications  — the most ever — and completed in-person interviews with more than 120 candidates in Amarillo, Austin, Dallas, El Paso, Houston, and San Antonio. Ninety-five principals, including White, were chosen to attend.

“Mr. White is a top-notch principal, and I know that he will make use of what he learns this summer in a manner that benefits both the students and staff at McGregor High School,” says Kevin Houchin, superintendent of McGregor ISD.  “The training will be high caliber, and it fits in well with our school district philosophy of continuous improvement.”

Having been selected, White will have the opportunity to attend Raise Your Hand Texas’ 9th annual Leadership Symposium in Austin in 2017.

Each year, Raise Your Hand Texas identifies impressive public school leaders in Texas and sends them — all expenses paid — to one of several week-long summer courses taught by HGSE professors. This summer’s Raise Your Hand cohort is more than 90 principals strong — the largest the organization has ever sent to The Principals’ Center.

Houchin says he and others at McGregor ISD are delighted that White was selected to participate in this prestigious event and network with other educators at Harvard University this summer.
