WACO, TX November 26, 2013 — Care Net Pregnancy Center of Central Texas has received a $50,000 grant from the Masterson Fund at Waco Foundation to help with the construction of their new Support Center and Guesthouse. This facility will provide housing and on-site services to pregnant women who are homeless or at risk of being homeless. Care Net of Central Texas began their Housing Program in 2012 with four individual residences. The organization quickly realized there was a tremendous need for this service, and four residences would not be adequate to meet the growing need. The proposed new facility will house up to eight women and their children at a time, in addition to providing additional classroom, office and supply space for the Center. “Oftentimes, an unplanned pregnancy may be seen as the death of a plan for a better future or may just be another mouth to feed in an already crowded home, with 3 and 4 generations under one roof,” explains Care Net of Central Texas Director Deborah McGregor. “Care Net will now have a safe guesthouse for women and children who lose their homes due to the decision to continue their pregnancy.” The new facility will sit near the intersection of 8th Street and Waco Drive, with construction costs totaling $1.7 million. This grant is a huge stepping stone to launching the project, bringing the total of monies raised to $1 million. Care Net of Central Texas is optimistic that the remaining funds needed will be raised soon, and construction is slated to begin sometime in 2014.
