MCGREGOR, Texas (October 12, 2015) —  The First National Bank Your Bank for Life announced Mission Waco/Mission World is the latest Charity Champion to be selected.

Mission Waco works to help the poor and marginalized change their own lives by offering skills, support and motivation through empowerment-based programs. To move to the next level, Mission Waco is seeking funds for economic development opportunities.

Specifically Mission Waco needs monetary donations to establish a grocery business and renovate its newly acquired building at 1505 N. 15th St.  This grocery store is a much-needed addition to the neighborhood.  The World Cup Cafe, Fair Trade Market and Jubilee Theatre are successful community and economic development projects already making a positive impact in the neighborhood.  Mission Waco is also wishing for a donation of an ice machine.

“Through holistic hands-on work, lives are being changed,” said Jimmy Dorrell, Mission Waco’s president and executive director. “I encourage anyone and everyone to come join this incredible adventure and discover the joy of serving others.”

Dorrell submitted the Charity Champion nomination.  When asked why Mission Waco should be selected, he wrote:

For 23 years, we have been serving and empowering thousands of the poor and marginalized in Central Texas through job training, children/youth programs, a homeless shelter, alcohol/drug residential treatment, a theatre and visual arts program, economic development in a blighted area, legal assistance and social services. We have the highest 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, were the #1 pick for non-profits by Locals Love Us, and have met the 20 required steps for a charity by the Better Business Bureau.

Mission Waco will be honored during the third quarter of the West Virginia vs. Baylor football game Saturday, October 17, 2015.

The ministry also helps the middle-class of our community better understand the issues of poverty through volunteerism, exposure trips and training.
